The creators of Can I Be Blunt are ordinary people with an extraordinary knack for understanding people. Students of human nature, they have always been fascinated by the subtleties of communication and miscommunication! With over 40 collective years in the human service field, they have worked with people from all walks of life and helped them overcome obstacles, improve their relationships and live more productive lives.
In every dispute, in every interpersonal issue, there is always more than one perspective. At Can I Be Blunt, we have The Doctor, who tends to more liberal in her thinking, and The Coach whose philosophies lean toward the more conservative. The issues they discuss are real problems sent by real people through a contact form. The conversations are entertaining, enlightening and often controversial. Listeners are invited to provide their comments and will sometimes be asked to join in a live conversation. Guest speakers will be invited from time to time to discuss various issues to get an even wider range of perspectives.
The Doctor: having lived on planet earth for nearly 50 years and having spent over 20 of those years as a professional counsellor, The Doctor has been compared to Judge Judy, who also happens to be one of her favorite celebrities. Judge Judy is a self proclaimed "truth machine" and so is our Doctor. She has an uncanny ability to "see through" people and find the truth - and she's not afraid to call BS when she hears it.
Considered by many to be "liberal" in her political and societal views, The Doctor has a philosophy of live and let live. She believes in equality for all people and has little tolerance for intolerance. She believes that religious views are personal and private and that religion has no place in legislation. Public and community safety is Priority #1, everything else is just personal choice.
The Coach has 20+ years invested in counselling children, teenagers, and couples. He is a little like a quieter male version of Dr. Laura with strong opinions of what is right and what is wrong, and believes that by "doing things right" you will get better results. The Coach is a strong advocate for the underdog and while he tends to be a little more conservative in his thinking, he has a social conscience.
The two perspectives, while often conflicting, provide a balanced view of most any issue. It certainly makes for some entertaining and interesting debate!
